![]() ![]() ’22 Jump Street’ released on June, 2014, and got a positive response with a certified fresh rating of 84% on Rotten Tomatoes. Given the immense success of the franchise we wonder if there could be more in store for us. But it’s been around six years since we last saw Schmidt and Jenko. It even improved upon the original with the duo’s brilliant bromantic chemistry, and the film’s sharp parody of itself and the genre. ’22 Jump Street’ had Schmidt and Jenko shift gears from high-school to college as they went on an undercover mission to catch yet another criminal. ![]() The film’s success led to a sequel which followed the steps of its predecessor. ’21 Jump Street’ brought to us Schmidt and Jenko everybody’s favourite oddball couple, played hilariously by Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill respectively. The film quickly won itself widespread acclaim from public and critics alike, turning out to be a huge box-office success. ’21 Jump Street’ infused all that 80s nostalgia with pop culture to give us something that was simultaneously sharp and silly. Lord and Miller reimagined the ’80s hit show as an R-rated screwball comedy that not only turned out to be an absolute laugh riot, but it also got itself a cult following. Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, then, teamed up to give us that one film that stands out, and that too through a reboot that nobody knew they needed: ’21 Jump Street’. But it is probably way harder to make one stand out in the vast sea of genre clichés. After all, it is hard to go wrong with a buddy cop film. Hollywood has been long aware of this not-so secret recipe to success. ![]() 23 jump street movie#However, given the tone and tenor of the previous raunchy and R-rated Jump Street movies, it is unlikely that this is a Men in Black movie that’s targeting the same exact audience as the previous trilogy. There’s just something so inherently fun about a mismatched pair of cops going on an undercover mission. However, with the two directors tied up at Disney where they will helm the young Han Solo standalone movie that’s aiming for 2018, that duo has stepped back to merely produce while the Alice Through the Looking Glass helmer takes over directing duties.Īs previously reported, this will be a soft-reboot of the Men in Black brand without either Will Smith or Tommy Lee Jones returning to their beloved roles. Of course, a big secret to the success of the previous Jump Street movies is Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who directed and guided the screenplays of both of those films, as well as other subversive fourth wall-breakers like The Lego Movie. While the project has yet to be officially greenlit, the movie is quite clearly happening if Bobin is already eying a June start date while Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill are confirmed to reprise their respective roles of Jenko and Schmidt in the new film. But now, you better hold onto your Ray-Bans, because the latter is still happening in a film featuring Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill’s comic double team.Īs broken by Variety, James Bobin of The Muppets and Flight of the Conchords fame is circling a 23 Jump Street Men in Black project as his next film after finishing up the press tour for this summer’s Alice Through the Looking Glass. However, the news of combining comedy sequels under one branch seemed to fade away with reports last year of Sony looking to reboot Men in Black sans Will Smith. ![]()
